Word Pigeon is an amazing WordPress plug in that is already making a huge difference in the lives of many bloggers, editors and content creators despite only being recently ‘hatched’. These folks are saving time, money (because time is money) and boosting their productivity making use of the powerful combination of their WordPress blog(s) and Google Docs.
Word Pigeon itself was created out of frustration and a need to gain back time lost. This achieved, we started wondering what other plug ins are available for WordPress that might compliment ours well, and that we could recommend to our users. Turns out there are some great ones.
Some of these plug ins members of the Word Pigeon team have been using for some time, others we have just discovered. What they all have in common though is that they are very useful and we highly recommend trying them out if you haven’t already.
Canva’s WordPress Plugin
Over the last several years, Canva has become one of the go-to resources for thousands of content creators. It allows those who are not graphic artists to create good-looking graphics and images for social media, their websites and yes, for their WordPress blogs.
But did you know that Canva now offers a WordPress plugin? Adding it allows you to make use of the perhaps familiar to you Canva design interface from right inside your WordPress blog.
The advantages of using the Canva WordPress plugin are many. For starters, you can see, right way, in real time, what that blog header for that 5,000 word piece you just imported from Google Docs using Word Pigeon is going to look like without having to flip from tab to tab or waste time with tons of uploading and downloading. You’ll have hundreds of images, templates and other graphic assets at your fingertips and as soon as you are happy with your image it’s a one click insert. Easy and saves lots of time, just like Word Pigeon.
The Canva WordPress plugin is free to install and free to use, but we would suggest that if you haven’t yet you give Canva for Business a try, as it offers you all kinds of extras including over four million photos and elements and a Brand Kit, to help you ensure that all the imagery you create is consistent to your blog and/or brand.
WP Media Folder
As images are very important, the best and most informative WordPress sites tens to have lots of them to enhance their excellent written content. The difficulty with that is that, as time goes on, finding a single image in your media library gets harder and harder.
WP Media Folder is a plugin created to help that problem. It offers an easy way to organize media libraries, sorting images into individual folders that you can label and organize in whatever way makes the most sense to you.
Like Word Pigeon, WP Media Folder works with Google Drive, so any images stored there can be added directly, cutting out extra time spent uploading, downloading and basically messing around.
Finally, if you are concerned about others stealing your images and making use of them without your permission, which many WordPress publishers are concerned about, WP Media Folder offers a feature that adds impossible to remove watermarks to images, even retroactively to those you published years ago.
WP Media Folder can be a big help for any WordPress user, but for e-commerce retailers it can be especially helpful, as it offers a handy find and replace image feature which allows you to change product images as your stock and/or the seasons easy and you won’t lose out on any ‘SEO link juice’ the page might have already generated when you do.
WP File Downloads
There is a lot of value to be gained by offering things like ebooks, reports, white papers and other multimedia content to your users as free downloads. Offering this kind of content is an excellent way to generate leads, capture contact information for marketing and gather valuable user demographics that can often prove invaluable.
Offering these kinds of downloads from your WordPress can be a long and sometimes arduous process though. You can solve one of the problems, the need to create and post a great long form piece full of images and tables, by having several people collaborate on the piece in Google Docs and then transfer the whole thing to your WordPress site in just a few clicks.
There are other complications to be addressed though. To be most beneficial to you the files themselves need special levels of access, calling for, for example, a user to share their email address before they can download the content.
WP File Downloads is a plugin that makes offering these kinds of high value downloads from your WordPress site easier and more efficient. From within the plug in you can group files into themed folders, set access levels for individual files, and keep track of important stats like the number of times a piece has been download, where that user came from, what kind of device they used and more. As this is all information that can be very helpful this a great feature to have.
WP File Downloads is a premium plugin, but costs just $29 for unlimited access for unlimited downloads, so offers great value for money if you make use of these kinds of ‘freebies’ a lot.
WP Team Display
Engaging with your WordPress users effectively is increasingly all about trust. It’s of increasing importance to search engines as well. Google’s new focus on expertise, authority and trust, – aka E.A.T – means that they too want to see more about just who makes up the team behind your WordPress site, brand and/or company.
Human users also want to see your team. They want to know who they are and what they look like. They want to know that you’re real.
One effective way to do all of this is to create an organization chart that showcases your team, their skills and just how hard they rock. There are some WordPress themes have that functionality built in, but it’s limited. The majority of WordPress themes however don’t offer team pages at all so you’ll have to to build and code them by hand, which is a pain and a real time suck.
The WP Team Display plugin allows you to create organizational charts that look good and read well. You can customize to meet your needs and suit your theme with just a few clicks. And if and when the make up of that team changes, changing your team showcase is simple, easy achievable in just a few minutes.
The plugin costs $29 for a lifetime license for use on unlimited websites.
Thanks to this amazing, and deceptively simple to use, set of WordPress plug ins you can add several levels of user interaction to your WordPress based site. And you can do so without writing any code or struggling through trying to come up with a good-looking design when you aren’t actually a designer.
With the Simple:Press Forums plug in you can customize forum skins to create a ‘white label’ forum, grant user rankings, award badges, enable private messaging between users, link blog posts to forum topics and much more. The Member Manager add on helps administrators manage these forums on a daily basis with ease and you can even make use of a third plug in to create a paid membership site complete with secure billing and payment collection systems.
Pricing varies according to usage but it’s very reasonable and you can learn more here.
